Rules of Decrypt

Decrypt is a code-breaking game where you try to guess the identities of a set of secret cards.

Setup

At the beginning of the game, a hand of 2 to 6 cards are drawn from a standard deck of 52 playing cards. These cards are hidden from you, and they are the secret cards whose identities you must guess.

Game Play

In each round, you try to guess what the secret cards are by selecting the same number of cards from the standard deck. Your guess cannot contain repeated cards.

After each guess, you receive four numbers that give you clues about the secret cards:

• The first number is the number of cards in your guess that are exact matches with the secret cards. A card in your guess is an exact match if it is in the secret at the same position.
• The second number is the number of cards in your guess that also appear in the secret but at the wrong positions.
• The third number is the number of cards in your guess that do not appear in the secret but have the same suits as the corresponding secret cards at the same positions.
• The fourth number is the number of cards in your guess that do not appear in the secret but have the same ranks as the corresponding secret cards at the same positions.

For example, if the secret is A 6 K K 7 and your guess is A K 7 6 7, you get the clues 1211.

• The first clue 1 says one card in your guess is an exact match (A).
• The second clue 2 says two cards in your guess also appear in the secret but at the wrong positions (K and 7).
• The third clue 1 says one card in your guess does not appear in the secret but has the same rank as the corresponding card in the secret at the same position (7).
• The fourth clue 1 says one card in your guess does not appear in the secret but has the same suit as the corresponding card in the secret at the same position (6).

Scoring

Your score is the number of guesses you take in the game. The lower the score the better.
